Lobster & Chesuncook Lake Canoeing Adventure

  • Lobster Lake, Maine (map)

Get in a spectacular five day canoe and camping adventure on Lobster & Chesuncook Lake with MYA and Coyote Ridge Guides in the North Maine Woods with lots of yoga, paddling, birding, swimming, fireside stories and yummy food! The ultimate nature therapy…

The Lobster & Chesuncook Lake trip is a pampered journey albeit rustic as our guides help us carry all our gear, food, supplies, etc. via canoe. This is a good canoe trip for any paddling ability - adventurers can bring along a buddy or come solo and we’ll hook you up with a paddling partner. Our guides, the fabulous Coyote Ridge Guides, Registered Maine Guides, will assist in teaching and reinforcing proper paddling strokes and technique. They also happen to have great personalities and are superb storytellers.

Adventurers will camp along the way in tents at lovely, scenic campsites. Post-paddling adventurers will have plenty of time to relax, swim and practice some yoga before bedtime. All levels of yogis are welcome, no experience, no worries. Daily yoga and meditation practices will be at a level attainable for everyone, we’ll be breathing in the beauty and stretching out our paddling efforts. Being outside at night is always exciting with lots of stargazing and storytelling. There’s nothing like a campfire to bring us all together :)

We’ll meet at a pre-determined location on our first day and drive to Lobster Stream for put in. After our canoes and gear are into the water, we will paddle upstream to Lobster Lake and to a campsite on the lakeshore. The wilderness campsites have lovely sandy beaches and we’ll have plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the stay. There will be ample opportunity for amazing views of Katahdin from both the water and the beaches.

The next day we travel back across the lake and back down lobster Stream to the West Branch of the Penobscot river. We travel down the river for two days and then stay out on Chesuncook lake. The lake was named "goose place" by combining the call of the Canada goose schunk with auke (the Abenaki word for place) to form Chesuncook. Henry David Thoreau visited Chesuncook (village) and lake in 1853 and wrote about its beginnings in his book "The Maine Woods".

Adventurers will have an opportunity to camp on and explore Mauser Island before we get to our take-out location. We’ll travel back to our original meeting place on the fifth day. Taking in and soaking up the last bits of spectacular scenery. Don’t forget your binos!

Our guides will cook all meals over the open fire, and source all of our firewood at the campsites when we arrive. They will cook two meals a day (all dietary restrictions and allergies will be honored), and lunches are usually cold, but all are very substantial. We also have a couple of snacks each day as we travel. For MYA will usually go fully vegetarian but we’ve opened up a fish option for a dinner or two for this canoe trip.

The best part is that the adventure is all inclusive - yessss! All adventurers have to do is show up with their sleeping bag and maybe some clothes :) Every adventurer is provided a dry bag to pack into and if you don’t have a sleeping bag, there are loaners.

Cost: $1,500
