100-Mile Wilderness (part of it!) Adventure

  • Moosehead Hills Sunrise Lodge (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Sold Out - thanks adventurers!

MYA is returning to the 100-Mile Wilderness to hike glorious Borestone Mountain with views for days and beautiful Gulf Hagas with jaw dropping waterfalls!

The adventure begins as we gather in Greenville at our own private wood cabin on loon lake - Moosehead Hills Sunrise Lodge (a bit larger than last year’s Loon Lodge). The cabin is tucked away on Loon Lake with incredible views and nature trails just outside the door. We’ll have three bedrooms, a large kitchen space and living room with a cozy fireplace as well as three bathrooms, one of which has a whirlpool bathtub. Situated in a peaceful spot with plenty of autumnal colors to take in, adventurers will enjoy yoga practices, healthy vegetarian food prepared with love by MYA cook Anna Olsen, hiking, and more.

If adventurers need to arrive later than 3pm, no worries!

Saturday morning we'll head out to Borestone Mountain Sanctuary, encompassing more than 1,600 acres in Maine's Hundred Mile Wilderness region, the area offers a spectacular array of natural features, including rare older forest, crystalline ponds, exposed granite crags and sweeping panoramic views.

From the nature center at Sunrise Pond, adventurers will head to the summit on a moderately strenuous climb that culminates in spectacular 360-degree views from two peaks at nearly 2,000 feet. We'll get in the Peregrine Trail as well upon our return, through mossy woods to breathe in more stunning views. The hike will take approximately 3 1/2 hours - 4 hours. Our cabin will be a haven as we relax, rejuvenate and prepare for Gulf Hagas on Sunday Funday!

The Grand Canyon of Maine, Gulf Hagas is a slate gorge carved out by the West Branch of the Pleasant River. Over the course of three miles, the river drops about 500 feet, forming mesmerizing waterfalls and swimming holes. Dramatic rock walls that border the river can get as high as 100 feet tall. Last year we took the trailhead via the backroads close to the lodge which was amazing but there are a few trail options, as a group, we can decide which trail suits us best. No matter what, Gulf Hagas is a very special place with unique canyonesque views.

Adventure space is limited! The Sunrise Lodge offers two private rooms with king beds and a shared room with two bunk beds.

Cost: $600/shared king (total price for 2 adventurers); $500/solo king; $400/twin; FB special offer

Goat Yoga & Friendsgiving Adventure

MYA is going back to the farm, an ethical, caring, community first farm, Lone Spruce Farm in Dedham! Adventurers will enjoy goat yoga (high hopes that the goats come close and join adventurers as they flow!), whipping up some recipes for a mini friendsgiving before the big day of gratitude, and coming together for a special weaving project...

IMG_E8839.jpg

We'll meet up at the farm for a tour of the grounds. The Beauchamp family are the hearts and hands that make up Lone Spruce Farm.

lone+spruce.jpg

Their farm, a sweet spot in Dedham, is dedicated to education, community, and sustainable agriculture. They are doing everything they can to ensure a diverse, bright future for all.

Adventurers will get to the know the goats a little better practicing yoga alongside them. They will definitely be curious but no one should mind getting distracted by cuteness. There may be snow, the ground may be grassy, no matter what the weather brings, we’ll have a fun outdoor practice. Beginners welcome!

Adventurers will have opportunities to create and connect as we come together to make bread, put together some mashed root veggies and cranberry pecan stuffing with wild rice. We’ll also make a crazy good dessert, chewy chia & flax cookies. MYA’s favorite part from last year will happen again…we’ll partake in vegetarian butternut ginger bisque from the woodfired oven! Yessss!

The food is always amazing at the farm and recipe cards will be available for everything we make and eat. An added delight to this year’s adventure will be adding an adventurer’s touch to a collaborative community weaving project.

This ongoing weaving project at the farm incorporates ripped strips of fabric that are woven into the garden fence from the many diverse visitors that come to Lone Spruce.

Friendsgiving attendees can bring old sheets, tapestries, or table cloths to rip up or use previously donated fabrics. Woven Together We Are One

Up North Ski Adventure

Escape the holiday madness to take time for yourself! MYA is headed up to Northern Maine for a fabulous weekend of snowshoeing, snowga, skiing both ways, yummy vegetarian food, and more…

Adventurers will lodge together in their own quaint homestead/farmhouse on a lovely property set along the banks of the Aroostook River. Arrival time is flexible - if you want to get outside and explore the trails with your snowshoes, come early! If you want to get outside and cross-country ski, come early! If you can’t slip away until later, no worries, we’ll have plenty of fun and food in the evening :)

The homestead was built in 1889 and allows adventurers plenty of space to spread out into with five lovely bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room and dining room to share. Of course MYA will be using the kitchen space to whip up tasty vegetarian dinners and breakfasts. Lunches will be open to adventurers and most likely up to where our adventures take us, either in town or on the slopes or at the homestead. Leftovers are usually an option too!

IMG_6919.jpg

Saturday and Sunday will be snowga and ski fundays! No worries about snowga, it’s just yoga in the snow, experience is not a necessity. A sense of humor is best as well as snowpants on the looser side! We can practice using each other for balancing postures which is always a hoot. No worries if you don’t have snowshoes, MYA can help.

For Saturday’s skiing pleasure, we’ll hit Big Rock Mountain on opening day in Mars Hill, less than a half hour drive - fun! MYA is happy to cover lift tickets for adventurers that are into downhill skiing but please know if you’d like to adventure without going downhill, that’s no problem, snowshoeing, snow sculpturing, cross-country skiing, small town shopping, and homestead chillaxin’ are always available.

On Sunday after breakfast and snowga, we’ll head to the Nordic Heritage Center, only 5 minutes away. The NHC, a jewel in the crown of Maine, embodies the best of Aroostook County: a place of incomparable beauty, embracing nature’s four seasons and maintained with love and care by many dedicated volunteers.

nordic+heritage.jpg

NHC offers up 20 kilometers of cross country ski trails and has a lodge for resting up and practicing yoga. The center also offers up snowshoe and cross-country ski rentals.

If you have your own skis and snowshoes, bring them along and if you want to try out your fat or plus tire bikes on the trails, that’s another fun method to indulge in the snow.

Join a wicked fab community of adventurers who will enjoy the snow in so many different ways! We may even partake in some holiday cheer at the homestead with prosecco and more…

Cost: $300/twin; $350/double; $400/queen; $450/shared double; $500/shared queen

There’s also an option for solo Sunday Funday for our local friends which includes breakfast and snowga at the homestead and cross-country skiing and after-ski stretch at the Nordic Center.

Costa Rican Sea Turtles Adventure

Costa Rican Sea Turtles Adventure

Maine Yoga Adventures is partnering again with outstanding nonprofit conservation organization, Earthwatch Institute, to assist on a 9 day Costa Rican Sea Turtles Expedition.

_2190865.jpg

Following volunteer work, adventurers will head to an awe-inspiring private home, The Sunset, in the rainforest of Nuevo Arenal for yoga, healthy vegetarian food, hiking, sightseeing, playing in the pool and more!

Adventurers are free to choose just the sea turtle expedition with Earthwatch Institute or just the adventure with MYA or both!

Lead scientist Frank Paladino, Professor of Biology, Indiana-Purdue University, has a research team to help gain a better understanding of the ecology of endangered turtles that nest on the beaches of Parque Nacional Marino Las Baulas. These beaches host the largest remaining population of leatherback turtles in the Eastern Pacific as well as important populations of olive ridley and East Pacific green turtles. (pics below by Jeff Morey)

The work will consist of...

  • Observing and monitor nesting leatherbacks. Those working on the beach at night will visit each nesting leatherback to take measurements and record any unusual markings or injuries—in other words, you’ll get as close as a person can to these majestic animals.

  • Release hatchlings in the ocean. When babies start to emerge from the eggs in the hatchery, our team will take the tiny turtles down to the water's edge and release them into the wild.

  • Survey the beach. During the day, our team will count sea turtle nests on the beach, take nest temperatures, and look for signs of erosion that could put nests in danger.

Accommodations are at the Goldring Marine Biology Field Station perched at the edge of the beach. Team MYA will share a bedroom with bunk beds. We'll have plenty of space to lounge at the pool or in the hammock. Typical tasty Costa Rican breakfasts and dinners of beans will be served up as well as ingredients for simple delicious lunches.

Adventurers can create an expedition fund through Earthwatch to receive tax-deductible donations to cover volunteering costs ($2,845 accommodations & food are included; flight is not included) or use another contribution platform such as GoFundMe. If you can’t commit but are interested in supporting endangered sea turtles, make a donation to support MYA founder, Holly, in her volunteer work.

paladino-costa-rican-sea-turtles-c.-joan-burnett-h-10_5200.jpg

The former Principal Investigator for this project, Nathan Robinson, is the scientist seen removing a straw from a turtle’s nostril in what is considered to be the viral video responsible for straw bans! More needs to be done in terms reducing the plastic threat in oceans but banning straws is a good place to start. Tamarindo, across the way from Playa Grande, could do with more education in both light reduction and reducing their disposables that end up in the waters that these turtles return to every year to lay down their future generations. The risks are many for turtles, humans can do more to help their plight by refusing plastic and considering options other than convenience.

IMG_1204.jpg

Nature is abundant in this peaceful place - the Costa Rican sunsets are gorgeous, like none other! Volunteers will have some time to relax on the beach, explore, and soak in the beauty. There will be time for wildlife watching, howler monkey families reside there, anteaters, crocs in the slower waterways, and more...

Post-research expedition, MYA will adventure to The Sunset in Nuevo Arenal for four blissful nights (January 17-21) of yoga, nature immersions (finding a sloth or two!), excursions, rainforest rambling, stargazing, birding (toucans visit the house), and delicious food!

IMG_2482.jpg

Rachel Hicks, our cook from Virginia, will work her adventure magic in the kitchen again. Rachel comes to MYA with a vibrant passion for the outdoors, sustainability, food, and wellness. A yoga teacher with a masters in nutrition, Rachel has led retreats and workshops in her wheelhouse of health and well-being.

The Sunset, our home, is going to be unbelievable! Located in the rainforest rather than a gated community, surrounded by nature, a 500 hundred acre preserve to the east and thousand acres of protected rainforest encompassing Tenorio National park to the North and West. A spot of peace and privacy with access to amazing excursions both in the forest and on the lake.

The entire property is a showcase of Costa Rican art, decorative tile, stone and craft work. Six beautifully appointed bedrooms featuring artwork, hand carved beds and doors with bathrooms en suite, and two decorative fireplaces are all for MYA. The master suite bathroom features a hot tub built for two (Holly promises to share!). There’s a chef’s kitchen, library/living room area, dining area, and a unique indoor pool with jacuzzi. We can play billiards and ping pong - lounging areas, an inversion table, and a massage table are also at our disposal.

Lake Arenal has so much to offer adventurers - windsurfing, canopy tours, boat tours, jungle hiking trails, kite surfing, horseback riding, kayaking, swimming in an extinct volcanic crater, spelunking and more. We can decide as a group our fav excursions, definitely hanging bridges and hot springs, and still have the option to simply relax and enjoy the tranquility and majesty of your surroundings.

cr2020_7.jpg

To help the Costa Rican National Park system finance education, outreach and protection, Red Sunset devotes 50% of each commission gained through sales of adventure tours toward this goal. With the benefit of access to individuals in the tour system that make it all work - tribal leaders, guides, and park directors. MYA will take advantage of a couple tours for sure!

This will be MYA's 5th journey to Costa Rica via the airport in Liberia. Founder, Holly Twining, will fly from Bangor, if adventurers feel more comfortable with a travel buddy. Flights are in the $500-$600 range.

To secure your spot on the sea turtle expedition team, Earthwatch will receive an initial contribution, a nonrefundable $300 deposit. Adventurers can use the fund for the deposit as well. If you're ready to commit to the expedition call Zach Zimmerman at 978-450-1226.

Adventure cost including four nights of fab accommodations, daily yoga, nature explorations, stunning sunsets, vegetarian dinners & breakfasts, pool dipping, wildlife viewing, airport transport & more...

$2,200 shared queen ($1,100 per adventurer); $1,700 solo queen; $1,200 bunk bed; secure your space w/ a $600 deposit

Please feel free to contact Holly for a payment plan if need be, MYA doesn’t like to turn down adventurers :)

Full Moon Yoga Adventure

Join MYA on a fab fall excursion to Hirundo Wildlife Refuge! Adventurers will enjoying hiking, yoga, tasty vegetarian soup, a moon on the rise and more...

We'll begin with a hike to take in all of the wondrous nature that Hirundo has to offer. Only 10 miles from the University of Maine, Orono, the refuge is a 2,400 acre nature preserve, spanning Pushaw and Dead Streams, Lac d’Or (lake), vast wetlands, including a gently raised bog, Silver Maple Floodplain Forest, mixed hardwood and evergreen forests. We should be nicely into fall foliage season and will breathe in a vast variety of hues.

forestyoga.jpg

Along the hike we'll be practicing yoga - beginners welcome! No worries, the hike will be gentle and the yoga will follow suit. At times we will be surrounded by trees, perhaps we’ll get to know them a bit better using them as our balance partners :)

forest+yoga.jpg

Afterwards adventurers will gather up inside the Hirundo shelter with vegetarian soup and some other yummy treats. We'll definitely be taking it outside again with a fire and toasting vegan marshmallows (yes, they're just as good as the gelatin variety, in fact, they're better!).

As the light begins to fade, the oh-so-close to full moon will be rising. It's the Hunter's Moon in October with a slightly orange color and a larger size compared to other month's full moons. Adventurers will surely notice the quieter sounds emerging in the dark as daytime's almost constant murmur is dimmed.

Iceland Adventure: Hikes & Hot Pots

  • Snæfellsjökull National Park Iceland (map)

Sold Out - thanks adventurers!

MYA is taking on a third adventure to the land of fire and ice - heading back to gorgeous and unique Iceland for seven nights! Adventurers will take in awesome sights while hiking, geothermal soaking, horseback riding, enjoying yummy food, yoga and more…

It all begins with the Blue Lagoon (best thing after flying!) - we'll soak up the goodness of one of the 25 wonders of the world!

blue lagoon1.jpg

Adventurers will relax and indulge in silky pale wonder packed with health benefits. The geothermal water has unique ingredients of silica, algae and minerals. Ahhh...the biggest decision you’ll have to make is whether to have the smoothy or the Prosecco!

Eventually we’ll have to leave our bathrobes behind. Adventurers will start north with a pause in funky downtown Reykjavik for lunch. We love Glo, a super tasty vegetarian restaurant right down the street from the penis museum (not kidding!).

GLO.jpg

With happy bellies, we’ll head to the magical Snæfellsnes peninsula for two nights of adventuring - a perfect spot for northern lights viewing! We’ll explore the black sand beach, lava fields, Kirkjufell mountain, Snaefellsjokull glacier, the craggy coastline, and more. Maybe luck will bring us an arctic fox again (take a look at the pic below in the peninsula series)!

Our private home will be in Arnarstapi where adventurers will be surrounded by abundant and breathtaking beauty.

peninsula.jpg

Please note that we’ll be cozying up in the house, there are six beds, but absolutely worth it! On one side of the home is the sea on the other side is the glacier completed by the outdoor hot pot (hot tub) to take in the stunning views. Feel free to give me any early heads up if you want one of the twin beds.

The home is flooded with natural light, beautifully appointed with a chef-worthy kitchen, wood-burning fireplace within a sumptuous living room, large dining area for meals, games and conversation and comfy beds in private rooms for a great night’s rest. Outdoors, the wrap-around deck is the perfect platform for viewing the Aurora Borealis (visible both nights during our stay) as well as the backyard mountain range and ocean bay. A very few steps off the deck leads to stunning views of the backyard waterfall and natural sea-arch carved thru the cliff face - a veritable miniature of Gatklettur - the Hellnar Arch - just down the road. You’re also just minutes away from Songhellur Cave. I can’t imagine a better, more comfortable lodging from which to explore the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. From our luxurious ‘base camp’ we easily dropped by Olkelduvatn Mineral Spring, toured Stykkisholmur and Grundarfjordar - where we caught fantastic reflecting photos of Kirkjufell - and then headed to World’s End at Öndverðarnes. There we might have spotted whales in season, but settled for the charcoal lava cliffs and Viking gravesite at Skarðsvík, a golden beach with basalt cubes alongside. The volcanic crater Vatnsborg was next, and dramatic Svörtuloft bird cliffs (Saxhólsbjarg), with excellent walkways. A tall, orange lighthouse also lies upon this trail and was well worth the trek. The 30-minute return trip to the house took us past Londrangar (the basalt cliffs). -visitor

Throughout the duration of the adventure, MYA will be serving up yummy vegetarian/vegan dinners and breakfasts in our well-appointed kitchens. We’ll absolutely be out exploring around lunchtime so we’ll be sure to pack up a lunch to bring along.

Adventurers will get in a least one proper yoga practice a day, sometimes more. Beginners welcome! No experience necessary :)

Keep in mind that this is your adventure and as in a yoga practice, you go at your own pace - you decide if you want to hang back and chill in the hot pot or come along for another hike. I bet this hot pot is going to be a great spot at night for taking in the aurora borealis.

From the peninsula, MYA will get in its first experience at an Icelandic hotel and this one looks super fine! Hotel Husafell will host us for one special night - we’ll settle down into a three bedroom and two bedroom house with hot pots, kitchens, and plenty of lounge space. The hotel itself has an outdoor pool and more hot pots!

Moments away from the hotel, there will be plenty of nature to explore including the lava waterfalls, maybe a Langjökull Ice Cave tour, a hike up Mount Strútur and/or wooded paths heading westward for an easy walk along Oddar, a group of brooks with diverse birdlife, from there it is just a short walk upriver to the meeting point of two rivers: the Norðlingafljót and Hvítá which will bring us to the waterfall Hundavaðsfoss. On my scouting trip in April four years ago we visited the lava waterfalls, it’ll be great to see them in September…

After our nature frolicking, we’ll travel further afield to hunker down for three nights in Akureyri, the capital of the north, in our own private home across from the city in a quiet area.

north.jpg

We’ll settle into a five bedroom and 2.5 bathrooms house with a sunroom and a spacious living room that makes for nice relaxation areas with marvelous views over the Eyjafjörður (the longest fjord in Iceland and one of the best places in the country for whale and puffin watching) and Akureyri.

Adventurers will enjoy checking out turf homes, the botanical garden, art galleries, Bjorbodin Beer Spa (optional), Dettifoss waterfall, Goðafoss waterfall, Ásbyrgi canyon, horseback riding (optional) and the community pool - one of Iceland's most popular pools with two outdoor pools, water jets, water slides, a splash pool, an indoor pool, four hot tubs, a steam bath, and a sauna.

We’ll also be close to the gorgeous Mývatn lake region which boasts Dimmuborgir lava formations, bubbling Hverir Mud pools, natural steam vents, and Grotcaja cave.

baths.jpg

The Myvatn Nature Baths are a highlight where you can enjoy the baths (optional - MYA will cover 1/2 the fee) similarly to the blue lagoon perhaps with less hype. Yes, more geothermal soaking! And that’s why we’re staying for three nights.

Last year we were very close by on the Troll peninsula (we can explore there too!) just north of the city where we found spectacular sights and even a random iceberg that floated by…

For our last eve in Iceland, we’ll head south with a stop at Baer where we’ll take over a family-owned guest house surrounded by nature yet close enough to the airport for an easy journey back. Located by Hvita River with mountains in view, adventurers will investigate the Snorralaug Hot Spring as well as Reykholt village just twelves miles away. On site we’ll partake in the hot pot (yes!) and simply enjoy the garden, a fab kitchen, wood floors and plenty of room for adventurers to relax and of course, to sleep.

This will probably be MYA’s last visit to this country full of magic and wonder - join us! We’re flying on Icelandair and more than happy to help adventurers with travel details. Feel free to call 207-299-0082 or email maineyogaadventures@gmail.com with questions.

Cost: $2,200 includes 7 nights accommodations, breakfasts & dinners, Blue Lagoon, yoga, hiking, lots of hot pots, fabulous adventurers and more…

Algonquin Resort Weekend Adventure

MYA is headed to Canada to the loveliest spot, St. Andrews by the sea, with the most fabulous accommodations at the Algonquin Resort. Adventurers will get in plenty of exploring, hiking, a ghost tour, yoga, yummy food, hot tubbing, pool splashing, and more…

Adventurers will gather on Friday at the resort, arrival time is flexible, and settle into our rooms. Please keep in mind, that the rooms will be shared, the beds don’t have to be! We can hit the pool (with waterslide!) and the hot tub to shake off the drive and head off to the sweet little seaside town on historic Water Street to watch the sunset. Perhaps we’ll find some lovely yoga postures to mix into the experience. There’s a quaint stroll along the rocks if the tide is right. MYA will bring along a tasty vegetarian soup for dinner that we’ll enjoy back at the Algonquin.

Saturday will be a big exploration day. So many sites! We’ll head to Indian Point, the sacred grounds of the Passamaquoddy Nation, located at the tip of the peninsula in St. Andrews. Adventurers will get take in marine life in a diverse inter-tidal zone. Nearby is Pagan Point Nature Preserve with coastal spruce forest and salt marsh. After a break for lunch, MYA will provide yummy eats, adventurers will hike Chamcook Mountain, an easy hike with splendid views from the top.

We’ll need some relaxing in the hot tub, poolside yoga, and happy hour at the MYA suite post hiking. As a group we can decide where we’d like to eat dinner, keeping in mind that this meal is not included in the adventure cost. Saturday night, get ready, we’re going to get in on the ghost tour led by a resort staff member, they spin great stories! The Algonquin opened in 1889, there’s plenty of history there and a few spirits as well.

Sunday funday we’re gonna get the tides just right for Ministers Island Trails, a 500 acre island only accessible at low tide. There we’ll explore fields, forest, and shoreline, oh la la! Before heading home, adventurers may want to check out Caughey-Taylor Nature Preserve with some dramatic cliffs on the way to the peak of Chickahominy Mountain.

You don’t want to miss out on this opportunity to explore St. Andrews with MYA! Please register as soon as possible, just in case we need to book an extra room or two…

Cost per adventurer: $350/sharing double bed; $400/sharing queen bed; $450/solo double bed; $500/solo queen bed

Please contact Holly directly for booking this adventure at 207-299-0082 or maineyogaadventures@gmail.com. Thank you!

Pop-Up Adventure: Partnering & Soaking

Sold Out! Thanks adventurers!

Join MYA for a last minute adventure that will get you outside, draw you into the present moment, clear your mind, open your heart, soothe your feet and bring happiness to your belly!

The adventure begins along the Penobscot River with an hour long, simple, feel good partner yoga practice (beginners welcome and experienced yogis too!). We’ll explore postures that allow for deep breaths and a little more stretch with a buddy. Partner yoga tends to bring up the giggles, that makes it refreshing and a lot of fun. Remember, there will always be modifications and you only go where your body wants to go.

No experience required and no partner necessary - don’t let that hold you back from enjoying yoga by the river! This practice will also get you ready for Holly’s new partner yoga class at Om Land Yoga on Thursday eves in Orono starting in September :)

After taking in the views of water, flowers, and wildlife then make our way to Soma Novo Bodywork, new owners Rhonda Michaels & Kevin Morneault, have taken over this fab spa space. Adventurers will love lounging and perhaps partaking in a bit of prosecco, margarita and/or a speciality tea to go with the foot soaking. Yummy vegetarian finger food will be offered up as well. Cheers!

To set yourself up for some loving kindness in the summertime on a Thursday eve, simply add to your cart below.

Up To Camp: Waterfalls & Rafting Adventure

Join Maine Yoga Adventures to celebrate four years of adventuring with another romp at camp with a little extra added in!

We'll start the adventure on a short hike to take in the beauty of Houston Brook Falls, a magical, tucked away Maine gem. Adventurers can explore, climb, and dip in the pools of the waterfall.

Following the hiking and frolicking, we'll head to Amy's camp for an outdoor yoga practice with a lovely view of the lake. Beginners welcome!

IMG_0878.JPG

There are plenty of boats to share so that adventurers can enjoy kayaking, paddleboarding and also tubing, kneeboarding and waterskiing - yahoo!

Holly will also bring her watercraft and adventurers can feel free to bring their own as well.

IMG_1035.JPG

If all that water horseplay is not in your comfort zone, there's a floating raft to relax on and aluminum docks with stairs to dip in and out of the lake.

The adventure can fit your energy level - if you need more activity, it'll happen, if you need less, that can happen as well.

Maine Yoga Adventures will supply yummy vegetarian food (happy to work with food allergies) - appetizers at the waterfall, light lunch after yoga, dinner post paddling and/or lounging, and if you choose to spend the night, breakfast in the am. If you choose to spend the night and go white water rafting with us then, more food :)

dead river.jpg

No worries, sleeping over is optional, feel free to just come for the day. Rafting is an optional activity as well with Dead River Expeditions leading us on a very special Sunday funday! We’ll be rafting on the Kennebec River, a first timer for me after hitting class 5 in Oregon - yikes!

Adventurers can choose to camp out (bring along your fav tent) or request a spare bedroom.

The early eve boat ride to watch the sunset will be gorgeous! We'll also hang by the fire and enjoy a beverage or two. There may be stars and a skinny dip, we'll just see what happens :)

This camp is an absolute delight, come and celebrate four years of MYA in this special place! And, if you’ve always want to try rafting with a fun group of people, this is definitely your chance (if you only want rafting with us, that’s an option too)! Play in the water and eat yummy food with us…

Cost: $75/daylong adventuring (+ dinner); $100/sleepover (+ breakfast); $100/rafting only; $200/full adventure (lots of food + rafting); Facebook special offer :)

Bold Coast Adventure

Maine Yoga Adventures is heading downeast for another spectacular yoga, hiking, yummy food weekend in gorgeous Lubec!

IMG_4370.jpg

Adventurers will spend the weekend at West Quoddy Station; a beautiful piece of property with plenty of areas to practice yoga outside and in! The station is also very close to fabulous hiking!

This year MYA finally gets to take over the super cool big house, the Station House, that has two levels, sweet views, and is so close to a great platform for outdoor yoga practices. The house is an original c.1915 USCG building that housed the officers and crew of USCG Station Quoddy Head until being decommissioned in 1970.

station+house.jpg

Restored in 2002, it offers spacious accommodations with 5 bedrooms and 2 ½ baths. On the 1st floor there is a fully equipped, modern kitchen, half bath, dining/living room and a large master suite. The second floor has a queen bedroom, a full bedroom, a twin bedroom (2 beds), a single bedroom and bathroom.

MYA will be serving up some scrumptious vegetarian meals for adventurers, we’re always happy to work with special dietary needs. Adventurers will be responsible for their lunches (although there’s usually leftovers!) and healthy snacks to keep their energy up for lots of nature explorations.

Adventurers will enjoy Quoddy Head State Park and the Bold Coast Trail for some of the best wildlife watching in the state. Adventurers may spot whales, countless ducks and shorebirds as well as eagles and songbirds. We’ll check out Maine's easternmost lighthouse, West Quoddy Head Light, in all of it’s candy-striped fabulousness. Wandering amongst the cliffs is breathtaking!

Lubec offers an astounding amount of nature from beaches to forest, ponds to bogs, cliff sides to gardens. From the rich ecological tapestry, adventurers can pick a special hike, start upon a magical trail and simply breath it in and enjoy...

Our adventure will also take us to Canada! Campobello Island is known for natural beauty, cultural significance and outstanding picturesque locations. Adventurers will get in hiking there as well!

IMG_4629.jpg

We visited Head Harbour Lightstation for a small fee last season and were rewarded with whale and porpoise sightings.

The cost includes two nights accommodations, daily yoga, spectacular hiking, dinners & breakfasts, nighttime explorations, and more...

Cost: $750/shared queen; $700/shared double; $450/double; $425/single; $400/twin (shared price is the cost for 2 adventurers total)

Arrival time is flexible! No worries…

The hike is moderate, about four miles round trip. Beginners are absolutely welcome, we set the pace, no worries. We’ll hike the flat carriage trail along the water before ascending up the Indian trail enjoying several captivating views along the way.

The Bridle trail is next up before reaching the summit. We can take a snack break and breathe in the sights and sounds of nature.

There’s a great slice of landscape for some yoga as well - let’s hope for more brilliant sunshine this season to bring into our open heart space! Please know that the yoga practices will be gentle and all are welcome :)

As a perfect end to a perfect hike, we’ll have a super yummy vegetarian picnic. We may want to get in another yoga practice on flatter ground as well to simply stretch out the hike. Tuscany Adventure

Sold Out! Thanks adventurers!

Maine Yoga Adventures is heading back to Spannocchia, the perfect place for adventuring into the heart of Tuscany, Italy.

IMG_2480.JPG

Organic farm and educational center, Spannocchia is nothing short of magical. Twelve miles west of Siena, Spannocchia boasts beautiful vistas, awesome hiking, verdant gardens, superb culinary classes, a lovely swimming pool, adorable farm animals, fantastic wine, amazing food, great people, and more...

Casetta al Padule will be our private oasis for a full week. MYA will offer breakfasts and dinners to adventurers - we'll keep our options open for lunches dependent on where our adventuring takes us. Wine tastings! Olive oil tastings! Nature walks! Village explorations!

Decorative details of the casetta feature the local yellow Sienese marble – a buttery stone marbled with ochre and bronze veins. The open layout is perfect for our group, and its location next to a pasture provides lovely morning views of cows grazing as the fog lifts from the valley. Four bedrooms create space for eight lucky adventurers!

The kitchen is a perfect space for preparing delicious Tuscan style meals. A large covered terrace at the back of the house will highlight outdoor dining and gathering. Dinners will be split between the casetta and the Spannocchia restaurant for a fully immersive experience.

Adventurers will be sure to enjoy yoga every day, an excursion either on or beyond the property, and free time to simply soak in the atmosphere (and soak in the pool!). With the pros at Spannocchia, our group will have wine tastings and an onsite garden tour and cooking class.

MYA will have two vehicles for ease off-site adventuring. We'll enjoy a day in the city of Siena, explore quaint villages, connect with culture, art and nature. Some possibilities...

San Galgano: Visit the remarkable circular chapel of Monte Siepi, site of the miraculous sword in the stone of Saint Galgano. A wine bar, terrific view of the valley and mountains, is perfect for a sunset aperitivo.

Colle Val d'elsa: Soak in this charming town off the beaten path with a vegetarian restaurant and open air market. Very close by is Colombaia, Biodynamic vineyard, a small vineyard with organic wines.

San Gimignano: Climb 15 of the original 72 towers that rise above the skyline for an impressive view of the countryside. The city developed according to a star-shaped plan along the ancient via Francigena.

Pienza: The city of cacio, cheese, MYA doesn't want to miss this! Adventurers may need cacio to go along with all of the splendid chianti we'll be tasting in the region.

Cost: $2000

Join MYA for seven nights of fabulousness, yoga, yummy vegetarian food, daily excursions, gorgeous accommodations and so much more…Please contact Holly if you’d like a payment plan. Flight is not included - you can choose to fly into either Florence or Rome.

From there, we’ll head out about 20 minutes or so to Savage Oakes Vineyard & Winery in Union. We’ll come across the ninety-five acre farm owned by Elmer and Holly Savage. They’ve got four acres of vineyard with ten varieties of grapes on a beautiful property with sweet cows, pigs, chickens, and perhaps the family dog in view. MYA will certainly partake in a wine tasting and farm strolling!

Dancing & Wining Adventure

So good last year, we’re doing it again! MYA and Christine Mihan, dancer, yogi, owner of Bangor Wine & Cheese, are coming together for a fabulous adventure of outdoor yoga, ballroom dancing, and wine, cheese & chocolate tasting!

We'll begin our adventure at the Bangor waterfront (parking beside the Sea Dog Restaurant) for a riverside walk blended with pauses for yoga postures. No fear adventurers, the yoga is light-hearted and full of laughter - beginners welcome! We’re starting a bit later than originally planned to enjoy clouds rather than rain :)

From the Penobscot River, adventurers will head over to Thomas School of Dance for ballroom dance lessons - yes, again, beginners welcome! Christine will lead us through moves that all adventurers can handle. Bring along a partner or we'll pair you up. Don't let a lack of a dance partner keep you from this fun!

We'll follow up dancing with a tasting session. Christine will guide us through bold and beautiful wines from Bangor Wine & Cheese, a popular pick up joint for tastebud happiness.

Adventurers will get to enjoy cheeses that pair perfectly with the wine, all available locally!

Earth Day Adventure: Goats & Gratitude

As a last minute celebratory adventure, MYA is heading back to the farm with more fun with goats and delicious food! Earth Day is every day for adventurers and Lone Spruce Farm but we’ll make this one extra special by drawing attention to what we’re grateful for and simple things we can do to make the earth a better place.

IMG_8823.jpg

We’ll begin with giving some love to the farm animals and spending extra time with the goats as we practice a yoga flow alongside them.

If there’s a chill in the air, adventurers can cozy up to an outdoor fire. Mimosas can be conjured up as well if adventurers are into it.

Next up will be food! Kristin, farmer and cook extraordinaire, of Lone Spruce will get the wood stove heated up for eggs (choice of duck, hen or goose eggs) alongside rustic breads and fresh greens.

IMG_8885.JPG

As we brainstorm all things earthy, we can take a stroll through the woods and alongside the stream. We’ll then kick off our shoes, get barefoot in the greenhouse and paint our promises to the earth and self.

Adventurers can share their ideas and art on the greenhouse walls. We’ll get visceral, don’t worry about getting technical :)

Cost: $45; $40/student

Zipping, Castling & Skiing Adventure

We had a blast the first time! So, MYA is headed back to the beautiful White Mountains region of New Hampshire for a wicked fun packed weekend adventure including ziplining, nighttime ice castle exploring, state park exploring, downhill skiing (cross country if you prefer), snowshoeing, and more…

Friday eve will get settled into our accommodations, our own private home with access to a pool and hot tub! We’re nicely placed in the town of Lincoln and very close to Loon Mountain. We’ll have three comfortable bedrooms and 2.5 neat, clean bathrooms. Two levels of living space will allow for us to spread out and relax!

Saturday, after breakfast and yoga, adventurers have a date in Lincoln with Alpine Adventures for winter ziplining. They opened the first, longest, highest and fastest Zipline Canopy Tour in New England in 2006. Our adrenaline will be pumping on this wintertime thrill ride! Our guides will keep us safe and secure as we zip over the canopy with outstanding views.

ice+castles+2.jpg

We’ll come back to our fab pad to relax and eat yummy food before heading out for nighttime fun - a visit to the Ice Castles (if they aren’t melted yet)! Adventurers will explore icy layers and tunnels in a version of Frozen. The castles are enshrouded in an aurora borealis and lit from within in a rainbow of colors.

Sunday funday can be adventurer’s choice! Loon Mountain is close by and has wonderful downhill runs. Cross-country skiing is awesome there too, their network of trails makes for a perfect way to explore the White Mountains. Loon also has a skating pond that we may like to check out - fun! Adventurers can purchase their downhill skiing tickets online. For cross-country skiing no worries, Loon’s trail prices are very affordable or you can opt for park trails for free.

flume+gorge.jpg

We checked out Franconia Notch State Park during our last visit and loved snowshoeing in to see The Flume, a super cool site of flowing water and thick ice and snow.
