Leave your routine behind and join Maine Yoga Adventures on an incredible weeklong adventure in a gorgeous place! The charm of Nosara, Costa Rica will enchant your heart and soul.

It’s not every day that you step out from a sunset surf or yoga session into a jungle habitat of howler monkeys dangling in leafy guarumo trees, cicadas conducting a symphony, and a pair of white-nosed coati — raccoon-like animals with striped tails and masks — strolling across a dirt road, sending geckos darting out of their path.

Nosara, is a small bumpy roaded village in the Nicoya Peninsula, on the northwest Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Its remoteness has long kept the crowds away, but surfers, yogis and adventurers know it’s special and have been making pilgrimages there for years.

We’ll experience Nosara as a small group of adventurers with a certified yoga teacher, a surfing instructor and a chef along for the ride. Holly Twining, founder of MYA will lead the yoga practices (at least 2 daily), Scott Anchors will lead us through the surf, and Sophia Palange will inspire us with her culinary expertise. The meals will be vegetarian and sourced locally.

Natural wonders abound within the seaside landscape. You’ll see plenty of howler monkeys and hear their unique calls as well, birds are in abundance as well as spectacular looking reptiles, iguanas. Throughout the dunes and beyond are gorgeous butterflies, dragonflies and the buzzing of busy bees in the bright tropical flowers. And, the people, well, they are warm & welcoming and very willing to help you work on speaking espanol!

Our accommodations are at Surf City Suites, vacation rentals. We'll take over two top level suites with wrap around porches and kitchens. Adventurers can partake in a pool, lovely gardens, and hammocks perfect to escape midday heat.

The hotel is just a short walk from the beach where you’ll take part in surfing lessons, yoga, bird watching, mini tennis, breathtaking sunsets, etc. Bike rentals are a great option to explore not only town but nearby beaches. We’ll be arriving right around turtle nesting season so we’ll be on the lookout for large shelled and slow but highly motivated ocean friends.

You can decide if you want a quiet night in or experience the music of the small surfside town. Live music happens on a nightly basis and of course, dancing. Another superb option is walking the beach in the nighttime underneath the stars watching for the occasional scurrying crab...

Side Trips to consider:

Monteverde is a town in mountainous northwestern Costa Rica. It’s renowned for its biodiverse cloud forests and for outdoor pursuits from hiking to zip-lining. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve shelters countless wildlife species, including jaguars, ocelots and the colorfully plumed quetzal. The reserve’s well-marked trails cut through ferns and orchids, and overhead, hanging bridges allow walks amid the forest canopy.

Visit an incredible black sand beach, Ostional Wildlife Reserve, where Ridley Sea Turtles and their close relatives, Kemp's Sea Turtles, lay their eggs. Amazingly enough, Ostional is the only beach in the world where harvesting turtle eggs is legal. Scientists found that most of the eggs deposited in the first nights of a nesting period are destroyed by other turtles coming in later to dig their nests.

A private nature preserve about 4 miles from your room, Reserva Biologica Nosara, is 90 acres of beauty situated along the Nosara River. It is home to many species of plants, mangroves and wildlife. Many different birds, such as seabirds, herons, waders, tukanes, motmots, manakins, etc. can be found in this area; altogether, more than 270 species. You may also catch a sighting of monkeys, coatis, raccoons, armadillos, snakes, anteaters, crabs, reptiles...
